Prepping Out Of Faithfulness Not Fear
We all have different reasons for why we choose to live a preparedness lifestyle. Some of us prep for natural disasters and others are essentially preparing for the end of the world as we know it. Lately, I’m not sure if I’m going to wake up to find that we are in the middle of WWIII or a full-blown Civil War has broken out on American soil, either way, I keep on prepping.
I see so many of my friends making the statement, “What is happening to our world?”
I absolutely understand where they are coming from. The world is shaping up to be a very hateful and dangerous place. I never would have imagined that I’d be raising my children in a world where you had to be concerned about going into major cities because of protests and riots. I can still remember being told that no war, no attack would ever happen on our soil because America was too strong and we’d see it coming before it ever happened. I think 9/11 proved that statement to be false.
As much as I couldn’t have imagined it, it really doesn’t shock me. Jesus warned us about what is happening right now and if we believe His Word, then we know it will only get worse.
4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains. 9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. – Matthew 24:4-14
If you believe in the Word of God, then it only makes sense to heed Jesus’ warning and do as we are told in Proverbs in order to prepare for the turbulent time we will face in the days leading up to Jesus’ return.
“Go to the ant you sluggard, consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer, no ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.” – Proverbs 6:6-8
Regardless of what circumstances we may be prepping for, we need to prep out of faithfulness and not fear. Each time I add a new item to my food storage or I fill a new container for my water storage, I do it out of the faithfulness that Jesus will fulfill His promise and return. I am doing it for the same reasons Noah built the ark. Noah believed God. He trusted God’s word that He would send a flood and destroy the earth. It didn’t matter how much his neighbors, friends and family made fun of him, because Noah loved God and trusted Him, he prepared. Noah was the ultimate example of prepping out of faithfulness not fear.
By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. – Hebrews 11:7
